I've updated my art site. I've added the lamps I've been working on over the past semester. I am so excited for neon this spring... or next week, rather, as classes are starting up again then.
Andy Warhol once created an image of a Siberian Tiger. I loved the bright colors, and the majestic animal. I decided to reproduce this image for a Freshman Foundations project, and then collage it with magazines and cds. Then I turned it into a four part stencil, putting it on a t-shirt. And now, I've become a tiger! With duct tape stripes...
Duct Tape. Its Fantastic. I've finally made the duct tape dress... a couple years late for the Stuck on Prom contest http://www.stuckatprom.com/ but still, its spacey enough for me and for Glam Slam.
And then. Photo Class called! Sandy Skoglund-inspired! You can find her work here http://www.sandyskoglund.com/. The assignment was cross processing (slide film in the C-41 developing process). Mom and Dad, sorry about the viola... I think it looks more vibrant this way. (P.S. The last photo is digital.)
Lamp Design! A very exciting sculpture class. Not neon, but all sorts of other glowing creations. Yesterday I finished The Door Lamp. And today took it on an enormous trek from Harder Hall to Miller, where it would be more aesthetically welcoming. 12 light bulbs, 8 Sharpies, 36 feet of paper, 1 roll of double-stick tape, and a never ending number of dowels, wood sticks, and wire. There are even doorknobs. Final pictures soon after crit. Here's the frame, pre-wiring.
This has been a well-needed, relaxing break. It began with two concerts... Mom's First GVOC (Genesee Valley Orchestra & Chorus) performance... all showtunes, all the time! Hooray! And I only knew about half of them. Really! I promise. I have quite a musical family.
The following night Dad, Jacob and I ventured to the Public Market for Harry & The Potters and Ju-Jajuba! We've seen Ju-Jajuba before, at a "Secret Base." This was my first time seeing Harry & The Potters. It was a wonderful audience-interaction show. I got to yell into the microphone: "SPEW!" One of their albums is called "Voldemort Can't Stop The Rock!" Wizard Rock is pretty cool.
This week I am up to my elbows in figuring out what is going on this summer. Something artsy is the goal. Details at 11.
P.S. The Legion of Doom is fantastic. Listen to their mash-up "Crazy As She Goes."
